Diane Revels Flashnick COLUMBIA –  Diane Revels Flashnick, 64, passed away Sunday, May, 28, 2017 after a hard fought, three year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Diane was born on August 21, 1952 in West Columbia, SC to James Arthur Revels Jr.  and Nell Sue Byrd. After graduating from Brookland Cayce High School in 1970, she attended The Art Institute of Atlanta in Atlanta, Ga. where she studied Fashion Merchandising. Following graduation she worked at Macy’s in Columbia, SC before starting a successful photography business, Carolina Custom Photographic with her former husband Bruce Flashnick. After 20 years working in her family business she followed her passion for helping others and began working with various children’s mental health organizations for five years prior to joining the Federation of Families of South Carolina as their executive director for more than 15 years.

She was equally passionate about putting her green thumb to use while spending time growing plants for herself and others. She loved spending her weekends and afternoons in her yard and the greenhouse on her family’s farm in Lexington, SC. She was an early riser and enjoyed filling the pre-dawn hours reading fiction novels. Around any holiday or special occasion she could be found baking or working on perfecting a new cheesecake recipe.

Diane is survived by son, Brett Ryan Flashnick, her daughter-in-law McKenzie Flashnick (Welsh) of Lexington, SC, and her much loved grandog, Boomer, her two sisters Rochelle Jones (Revels),  Robin Scott (Revels), brother James Arthur Revles III, brothers-in-law Mark Scott, and Mark Lutton, Nephews Christopher Gallant, Bragston Jones, James Revels IV., Harrison Revels, and Niece Jan Elise Scott.

Celebration of Life

Saturday June 24, 2017
5 – 9 pm
Slideshow and sharing of stories starting at 6pm. Dinner following.

Diane wanted her family and friends to remember her with a joyous occasion. Instead of a funeral she requested a party in her honor. And that is what we are doing! We know it’s not traditional, but then again, neither was Diane. As a bonafide entertainer she loved a good time with friends and family, enjoying a few glasses of white wine while listening to music and participating in conversations. She was known to tell a few clean (and not so clean) jokes and she ensured there was fun to be had all around. We can think of no better way to memorialize her life than to get together and celebrate our amazing mom, sister, aunt, friend and the strongest warrior we’ve ever known.
